How to get a Medical Certificate for Driving License (DL)

Obtaining a driving license is not a difficult task if all the requisites are met. According to the Motor Vehicle Act of 1988, any person who wants to drive a vehicle in India must also be having a medical certificate for Driving License. So, if you are not having a ML Certificate and driving, It is therefore a punishable offense if a person is not carrying a valid permanent license while driving because it is obvious to not having a DL without having a Medical Certificate.

Who requires a Medical Certificate?

A medical certificate is required by all the applicants who are applying for a driving license. If a person is beyond 50 years of age, he must also produce a medical certificate in the Form said to be as 1A. Further, if the applicant is applying for the transport class license, then there is a need for a medical certificate to be produced in Form 1A as well. Other than these two scenarios, there is no requirement for a medical certificate.

How to get the required Medical Certificate for Driving licence ?

A medical certificate can be issued by any government doctor or practitioner. This medical certificate has to be presented along with the other required documents to apply for a permanent driving license. It is all the more necessary to apply it during the 1st stage, i.e., while applying for the learner’s license.

At the same time, the medical certificate is something that the applicant can download and take it to the doctor. What a doctor has to do is, fill the form after a check-up and sign it duly.

Who is Capable of giving this signed Medical Certificate?

Please take this form – FORM 1A – and approach a government hospital. Approach the counter and pay the fees for the same. You will be sent to a certified professional who can get this done. You can procure this certificate easily.

This certificate must be issued only by certified people appointed solely for this purpose. It can be a person of the state government or authorized personnel appointed on behalf of the state government.

The medical certificate is also necessary while applying for renewal purposes. Again the two categories come in the picture. 1. A person above 50 years and a person applying to the transport license category. Medical FORM 1A is duly necessary for these two categories.

A driving license is a prime document that must also prove the applicant’s health status. However, liberty is given for people below 40 years, but if the applicant is applying in the transport license category, he must definitely carry a medical certificate. As the above information requires concerned medical authorities to certify fitness, it is also okay if the certificate is produced by a doctor with an M.B.B.S. degree or equivalent.

The government has set some norms concerning the same. In some states, the RTO offices are not accepting the medical certificates issued by the Ayurveda doctors. It is also said that only government hospital doctors shall be entitled to offer the same. One small liberty is, the RTOs in Maharashtra accept the medical certificate given by MBBS degree holders. At times, you will be asked to take a blood test, if unsure of the same. Such details shall be necessary for the driving license. While the fees are nominal in this accord, in certain RTOs you will find such forms rolling in the hands of agents. You might have to pay the required money to procure it.
